Change Starts Here. That is the tag line for United Way. It is also a great tag line for women who are moving beyond situations of domestic violence. When women and their children come to our shelters, Anselma House in Kitchener and Haven House in Cambridge, they are starting to change their lives.

United Way of Kitchener Waterloo and United Way of Cambridge and North Dumfries support us each year so that we can work toward building Healthy People and Strong Communities.

With the help of United Way, we can support the wellbeing of women and children as they make positive changes in their lives. We can decrease barriers for women and children, helping them find safe housing and ultimately helping them live a life free from violence. While the women and children live in our shelters, they are able to regroup, plan and connect with supportive people and agencies.

For the women who are living in their homes, our Outreach workers provide practical assistance such has help with completing housing application and providing information to help demystify their court procedures.

United Way helps us to support women and children gain an increased personal sense of emotional well being as well as increased self confidence. We also work to improve their access to the many services they need.

We need all of our community partners to help us help families. United Way plays a vital role and helps us in our work.
