The Rotary Club of Cambridge North has donated $30,000 towards the She Deserves It campaign to re-build Haven House in Cambridge. The club designated their gift towards the campaign’s Build a Bedroom initiative. The bedroom they built includes a private bathroom, window for natural light and fresh air, and a desk with drawers.

We are very grateful for their generosity and moreover their commitment to assist us in helping women and their children move beyond violence, says Mary Zilney, Chief Executive Officer of Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region. Sean Carragher and his team from Cambridge North Rotary have shown amazing leadership in rallying together on behalf of abused women and their children in our community.

When a woman and her children arrive at the shelter, it is a scary, confusing, frustrating and exhausting time for them, says Alan Sharpe, the new Fund Development Manager at Women’s Crisis Services. This donation from the members of the The Rotary Club of Cambridge North gives women their own private bedroom, a room designed for comfort and sensitivity during this process of healing, says Sharpe. By building a room, these Rotarians are rebuilding lives.
