It is not an exaggeration to say that she has helped to change the landscape and the future of women and children in Cambridge and North Dumfries.

saraWhile in a senior role at Gore Mutual Insurance Company, Sara wholeheartedly dedicated herself to lead the SHE DESERVES IT campaign to rebuild Haven House; the shelter for abused women and children. This commitment took many different turns and asked her to dedicate her skills, time, energy and passion to lead a volunteer team, a community and a region to join her.

There were many challenges, not the least of which was educating the community about violence against women and working against stereotypes and biases.

As the campaign continued the uphill battle, Sara managed personal and professional changes without losing her steadfast focus to provide safe shelter from abuse in Cambridge.20161128_192943

Her commitment over 2 years has lead to the successful opening of HAVEN HOUSE on September 8, 2016. Women and children who are facing domestic abuse, now have a safe and nurturing place in which to heal, learn, grow and move beyond violence.

Sara’s passion was contagious as he recruited leaders, investments, volunteers and support from Cambridge and for Cambridge, but also reaching far beyond our Region.

dsc_5342Haven House and the women and children who will be served for generations to come, owe a debt of gratitude to Sara McLennan. She has helped build safety and a future free of abuse. Her volunteer dedication to serving Cambridge has significantly impacted our community and the future for generations.
