Clinical Support Worker
Part Time
Women’s Crisis
Services operates two 24 hour emergency shelters for abused women and their
children, along with an Outreach program which provides supportive services to
women and children in the community. We are a not-for-profit organization and
work from an anti-racism and anti-oppressive framework.
Responsibilities:
- Work
collaboratively with child protection workers in Domestic Violence cases as
part of the Family & Children’s Services (F&CS) Collaborative
Women’s
Crisis Services is working in collaboration with F&CS in efforts to more
effectively address domestic violence in an integrated manner across the
region. The goal is to improve outcomes
for child welfare clients through increased access to service.
- Conduct
initial clinical assessments with women and their children and
appropriately assist with immediate clinical crisis intervention as needed
- Provide
clinical intervention for women and children who are: F&CS clients;
Outreach clients and/or those clients residing at one of the shelters
- Bridge
the service gap by providing interim therapeutic counseling until long
term counseling becomes available
- Engage
clients in appropriate and meaningful clinical intervention in order to
facilitate effective therapeutic change, adhering to the principles of
solid professional practice.
Qualifications:
- MSW
plus minimum two years demonstrated clinical experience working
directly with women and children exposed to domestic violence
- Member
in good standing with the Ontario College of Registered Social Workers
preferred
- Previous
experience in substance abuse and mental health assessments definite
assets
- Previous
child protection experience a definite asset
- Strong
knowledge of feminism and understanding of diversity, Anti-racism and
Anti-oppression - cross-cultural perspective and awareness
- Strong
knowledge and understanding of violence against women & their children
- Excellent
oral and written communication skills; second language an asset
- Strong
organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated
ability to collaborate with the community, staff and partner agencies
- Ability
to function successfully both independently and within a team
- Demonstrated
computer proficiency
- Valid
Ontario Drivers license, valid insurance and access to a reliable vehicle
- Travel
required throughout Waterloo
region.
This is a 21 hour per week CAW Local 302 union position. The hourly start rate is $23.80.
