Women's Crisis Services of Waterloo Region is seeking board members for induction at our June 2008 Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Overview of the expectations of board members:

Within the next few years, it is hopeful that we will be in the midst of a capital campaign to replace the now existing Kitchener shelter (Anselma House). This will require additional assistance from board members as the campaign flourishes.

If you are interested in joining the board of a progressive social service agency please forward a copy of your resume along with a cover letter to my attention at the address noted below. An interview will then follow with our Board Chair and the nominating committee. Men play an important part in the eradication of violence against women and are welcome to join our board.

    OUR MISSION IN ACTION...

A message from the Presidents and Executive Director

Violence must be stopped. Our mission is to eradicate violence against one another. At the same time as we are working on eradication one must recognize we need to deal with the present.

Anselma House / Haven House is a temporary emergency shelter for women and their children. We have operated at full capacity since January 1996. We also, however, attempt through public education and advocacy to effect social change which will lead us to a future free of violence. This essential service would not be possible without the generosity of people and organizations in our community.

With our ever changing society and new demands, creative solutions are necessary. The Board of Directors with input from both management and staff form the policies of Anselma House / Haven House. We must continue to be as prescriptive as possible in decreasing and eventually eradicating violence. The monitoring of government resources and educating those in power are very real areas of continual advocacy. With the dedication of our volunteers and staff, Anselma House / Haven House will remain a valuable support to physically, sexually and emotionally abused women and their children. Our work not only faces daily crisis, but the many challenges of decreased funding and greater requests for services. We must heighten awareness of the problem at every opportunity and work with those who need us now at this moment in time.

Thank-you to those who serve and care. You help light a corner of a very large world. If you would like to be part of our group through donations or volunteer service, please call. We need your active support.
